HSPRTY are the winners of the latest competition run by the Dutch label Vunzige Deuntjes on the VIRPP-platform. We spoke to the trio about winning, music on VIRPP, and what’s next. “We will keep making music with the three of us spreading positivity and having fun.”
Congratulations on winning the Vunzinge Deuntjes’s contest.
“Thank you, it has been a cool and interesting experience so far. We’ve been making music for three or four years, mostly just for fun. In 2021, we decided to take the music and the bizz to the next level. With HSPRTY our aim is to prove that urban music from Curaçao is multi-dimensional: from dancehall to trap, from bubbling to reggaeton. Whatever the occasion, HSPRTY will get your party started. Singer and rapper Kilate Tesla told us we should check out VIRPP, so we did. We uploaded some demos and one was really popular with VIRPP-users. Vunzige Deuntjes was also very enthusiastic and we started talking. We were lucky and happy to sign our track “Zwai” to the label.”
Why did Vunzige Deuntjes choose Zwai?
“The chorus and hooks are damn catchy and easy to sing along, even if you don’t know Papiamentu. And don’t forget the beat, it’s a nasty banging beat. Whenever people hear this song, they will be surprised by a language you don’t hear a lot in club music and they will dance their asses off. What Zwai means? In our language, it’s another word for waving, but in our case, (waving) shaking your booty. The music is perfect for that. We are very happy with the Vunzige Deuntjes deal. Some of us have played at their parties a couple of times. That makes it really special that they will release “Zwai”.
After the release on Vunzige Deuntjes what’s next for HSPRTY?
“Of course we want to keep releasing new music through labels but the most important thing is to make music the same way we did before. With the three of us spreading positivity and having fun. We see HSPRTY as a vibrant community, where every music lover and or party animal is welcome. Our fans and the people backstage are definitely part of that. This year, we started organizing HSPRTY parties. A cool gathering of like-minded people, where we play our music and the music from artists we really like and admire. Because of COVID- 19, it was on a small scale. But the plans are to go way bigger in the future but keep an eye out on our IG @wearehsprty.”
What are your thoughts on VIRPP?
“We are very thankful that we have won and we like the platform a lot. We all spent some time on VIRPP and were surprised by how easy it was to create an artist page and upload your music. And let’s not forget the cool competitions that keep popping up and the big- name labels that collaborate with VIRPP. When you start out as an artist with big dreams and ambitions, you don’t have an idea how to get in touch with labels. Being on a platform like this makes it easier to get their attention. For starting artists, it is good to know that VIRPP can really help your career and get you noticed in the music game.”
